| Caption:: | Luang Prabang lies on the banks of the Mekong River and was the former royal capitol of Laos. I arrived in mid-April, just in time for the traditional Lao New Year’s Festival, called Pimai. The festivities included a beauty pageant with girls dressed in traditional clothes and formal processions to the principle temple of Wat Xieng Thong This young lady is carrying an offering of flowers to the temple. Another popular activity was, to many peoples’ dismay, dousing passerby with buckets of water! |
