| Description: | At 14,156 feet, the Maroon Bells rank as #25 of Colorado’s 53 peaks over 14,000 feet. A Clear spring sunrise reflects the peaks over the smooth surface of Lower Maroon Lake. The next day I ascended both peaks solo, via the snow couloir leading up to the saddle between the peaks, thus avoiding the crumbly 300 million-year-old sedimentary red rock that gives the peaks their name. |
