Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel
Mount Rainier National Park
Washington

Description:Lacking the facial stripes of his smaller cousin the chipmunk, Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels (Callospermophilus Lateralis saturatus) are common in the mountains of the American west. Feeding primarily on pine nuts in open forests, Golden Mantles also quickly learn to beg food from humans.
