Portage Glacier & Lake
Alaska

Description:Located in the rugged Kenai Mountains 49 miles southeast of Anchorage, Alaska, the 6-mile long Portage Glacier flows down into Portage Lake at just 30 feet above sea level. The lake is over 600 feet deep and was occupied by the glacier 90 years ago. Like most Alaskan glaciers, Portage Glacier is shrinking.
