Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina
| Description: | Most people say that the three most spectacular large-volume waterfalls in the world are Niagara Falls of the Saint Lawrence River in New York, Ontario, Victoria Falls of the Zambezi River in Zambia/Zimbabwe in Southern Africa and here, Iguazu Falls ("great waters" in the local Indian language) on a tributary of the Piranha River in South America. Many will argue that one or the other is the most impressive. Having been to all three, I can say without hesitation that Iguazu is the most spectacular one of all! This photo shows only a portion of the two-mile long 230 to 269 foot-high falls, surrounded by thick virgin jungle. The photo was taken from Brazil, looking across to Argentina. At the top of the falls, the tiny specks are people walking along an elevated walkway. |
