Temple Monkeys
Katmandu, Nepal

Description:The Shrine of Pashupatinath is dedicated to Shiva in his role as Lord of the Animals. It dates back to 1696 and is one of the holiest Hindu shrines in all of Nepal. Several troops of wild rhesus monkeys live on the temple grounds, living off the food offerings left by temple devotees and protected by Hindus, who regard monkeys as incarnations of the Hindu monkey-god Hanuman.
